How to become a Staples Supplier

Thank you for your interest in becoming a supplier to Staples Australia/New Zealand. Staples actively seek proposals from businesses interested in participating in our preferred supplier program through an annual open tender process (RFP); this allows companies to submit a proposal to supply product for re-sale and distribution through printed catalogues, the NetXpress online platform, promotional activity and our staples.com.au open website.
Our product/supplier selection is based on a number of criteria that forms part of Staples’ tender request documents, this criteria includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Country of ownership and structure of ownership of company
  • Country of origin/manufacture of proposed product range
  • Sustainable/ethical sourcing compliance of both overall company and product sourced/supplied
  • Suitability to Staples Australia/New Zealand marketplace
  • Competitiveness of pricing in the market
  • Geographic distribution and scope
  • Products must meet Australian-recognised third party certification/safety standards
  • Warranty and product guarantees

 

Our commitment to corporate responsibility means that all suppliers are required to adhere to our Ethical Sourcing Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct ensuring compliance to all Australian and International regulations around the manufacture of product or provision of service.

At Staples, we are focused on enhancing our supply chain and strengthening minority businesses economically by building partnerships with Indigenous businesses, ADE Certified Australian Disability Enterprises, women-owned businesses and Small to Medium-Sized Enterprises (“SMEs” as defined by the ABS) who meet our selection criteria or business requirements.

We are a founding member of the Australian Government’s Supply Nation (Formerly called AIMSC). Supply Nation is a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to provide opportunities for small to medium-sized Indigenous-owned businesses to enter into commercial relationships with large corporate and government entities. Indigenous businesses certified with Supply Nation are able to showcase their goods and services to corporate members and may then enter directly into commercial contracts and tender for public contracts offering by supplier council members.

It is our corporate policy to offer minority suppliers an opportunity to compete on an equal basis with all other bidders. In addition, we provide mentoring to SMEs (up to 200 full-time equivalent employees), Indigenous businesses, women-owned businesses and Australian Disability Enterprises in the developing and strengthening of business partnerships.

Definitions
• A minority or woman‐owned business must be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a minority or woman. In the case of a publicly owned company, a diversity supplier must own at least 51% of the outstanding stock, and the management and daily business operations must be controlled and operated by a minority or woman or group. Minority members include those who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples or Maori enterprises as defined by the NZ Government.
• Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are classified in line with the Australian Bureau of Statistics definition as a business employing less than 200 people in Australia and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as businesses employing less than 20 people in New Zealand.
• Certification – Supplier certification is a process whereby minority or woman-owned businesses are verified as legitimately owned by or a combination thereof. Such validation of a supplier’s diverse status is required for participation in the Staples Supplier Diversity Program.
